Who are we?

CocoricOz (CocoricOz Inc.) is a non-profit association dedicated to French speakers in Australia. We offer a free, neutral, community-led space that connects the country's French-speaking communities to one another — an explicitly non-commercial project, with no hidden agenda.

The association is incorporated in Queensland under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981. Our team is based in Brisbane, with volunteers in other cities, and our goal is to have a point of contact in every Australian state.

Our purpose

The French-speaking non-profit landscape in Australia is fragmented: each organisation targets a specific audience — often prospective migrants — and many backpacker groups are, in reality, commercial activities in disguise. CocoricOz was born from a desire to build a bridge between these communities: a free, reliable space open to all French speakers, with no hidden commercial intent.

In practice, we support every French speaker in Australia — Working Holiday Visa (WHV) travellers and longer-term residents alike — at every stage of their journey: real-time help with the WHV, housing, healthcare, taxes and work; shared resources; events to build connections; support for people facing employer scams; and prevention upstream, with future applicants still in France. Beyond the practical side, we carry a mission of moral support and social connection.

Our story

It all started with a few friends who launched an online discussion group to protect French-speaking backpackers from abuse. Other volunteers, already active in Brisbane's French-speaking community, soon joined them.

As more volunteers joined the adventure, the collective took shape as a non-profit association. The group grew quickly and soon outgrew its space: it moved to Discord, today our main platform.

Today, CocoricOz keeps growing around the same values: recruiting volunteers, expanding its events to new cities, building points of contact in every state, and remaining a trusted resource for all French speakers in Australia — WHV travellers and long-term residents alike.
